Where the clock starts matters more than the rate
Carriers frequently bill from vessel discharge while the tariff says free time starts at availability or release. Two or three days of drift at tier-two per-diem is where most disputed invoices are won. Anchor the clock on the availability notification and keep the timestamp.
Calendar days vs working days
Most filings count calendar days, so a Friday discharge with three free days expires Monday. Working-day ports skip weekends and statutory holidays, moving the deadline later. The calculator uses the convention prevailing at the port you select and shows how many days it skipped.
