The Free-Time Matrix

Every carrier files demurrage and detention free time locally: the same line gives you three days in Long Beach and seven in Valencia for the same box. Pick a carrier, a port of discharge and a container type and get the free days, how the days are counted, where each clock starts, and the escalation bands — before you quote, not after the invoice.

Sellexio watches vessels and voyages worldwide — every commercial port on AIS — and holds filed carrier and terminal benchmarks at 57 ports across 10 carriers. Outside those gateways we still read your invoice against the carrier's own filing — ask the desk for any port in the world.

Bands are relative multipliers of the first chargeable day, not dollar rates — per-diem amounts are contract- and lane-specific. Use the carrier lookup below for the filed figure.

Enter the discharge / availability date and we count the free period the way this port counts it.

Before you quote — watch for

  • Merged "D&D" lines hide which clock produced the charge — always demand the split before paying.
  • Appointment scarcity is the top reversal ground here: days when no dual-transaction slot existed are not merchant-caused under the FMC rule.
  • US import: the FMC rule (46 CFR 541) requires the charge to serve an incentive purpose and the invoice to carry 13 specific elements. A defective invoice eliminates the obligation to pay.

How to read these rows

  • Rows are derived from each carrier’s published tariff structure plus the prevailing local norm at that port. They are a planning baseline, not a substitute for the filing.
  • Your service contract always overrides the tariff. If your contract grants extra free time, that is the number that governs.
  • Every row links to the carrier’s own tariff lookup so you can confirm the filed figure for the exact date of discharge.
